I am excited to offer this opportunity for students and individuals that are interested in beginning the metalsmithing journey.
You will learn the fundamentals of wax carving and create your own wax model in session one, have it cast in a professional casting facility, and then finish your model in session two!
I recommend that you carve a ring – for a number of reasons which will be outlined in the information you will be sent prior to the workshop. This information will also help you prepare before the workshop begins. Your carving will be sent to my professional caster and returned in time for our next workshop day. You are not required to carve a ring, you may also wish to carve a pendant, a small object, or perhaps a bangle.
The second Saturday you will learn how to finish your model and complete it by the end of the day. For students who have taken an intermediate class, there may also be time for you to set a stone, You will receive instructions in how to mount a cabochon – so keep that in mind if you begin to search for a potential stone (details will be provided in the information you receive prior to the workshop).
Going forward, after completing this workshop, if you attend an Intermediate session, you will be able to create carvings that I will send to my caster. Your cost will be the price of the casting (metal and flask charge) and a portion of the shipping.
We will have a pot luck lunch break. This is going to be a fun and relaxing workshop. I hope you can join us.
